This will be the most dry and to-the-point description of what I personally do about V2K.
I wear over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones by Sony https://a.co/d/e0R7UJW
The reason I am using this model because it comes with an app with its own equalizer. I set the equalizer manually, with all the frequencies pulled all the way down. That reduces the amount of frequencies V2K can piggyback on. Also, it makes the sound quieter, so you can crank up the volume, which also amplifies the headphone’s noise-canceling function:
I picked a long book on Audible that I play at 0.8x speed to bring the frequency further down. At this speed, the entire book takes almost 14 hours to listen to:
Listening to the same book on repeat allows your mind to concentrate on the voice of the book rather than on V2K (which is still being piped into your brain, but the mind tunes in on the louder audio signal of the audiobook, rather than on the microwave modulated “voice”). You brain can only pay attention to one thing at a time, and this takes advantage of your brain’s feature.
After listening to the same book numerous times, you mind tunes out of “listening” and trying to process to the content of the book, because by now you know everything it will say. THAT frees up some of your cognitive bandwidth to perform other cognitive tasks.
I highly recommend buying extended warranty, because the headphones can be “zapped” and disabled, which happened to me twice. I keep 2 pairs on hand. They charge fast.
I recommend wearing one pair to bed and one pair during the day. The one you wear at night will eventually acquire some odor because you will sweat at night. Blowing fan at me during sleep is a must.
Here is the best product I found so far to remove the unpleasant odor from the pair you are going to sleep in : https://a.co/d/giBP5gF
I found waking up to the sound of the book still playing in your headphones extremely useful, because it prevents V2K from sending you messages during the time you are most vulnerable.
It took me a while to get used to sleeping in headphones but not too long. You get lucid dreams in which you recognize various characters citing the book verbatum. But that’s a good thing. It means you are still in the driver’s seat, so-to-speak.
Wearing headphones all the time makes you less sociable and less approachable, so it is important to communicate that you are not hiding from having a conversation, you are distracting yourself from V2K (yes, that means you need to disclose it). Encourage people around you to use a special gesture when they wish to communicate with you. You’d be surprised how willing people are to accommodate your needs. It also makes them feel that they are doing something about your situation, which is a source of constant frustration on the part of those who care about you.
I am convinced that minimizing exposure to V2K and not engaging with it is the most optimal solution for your mental and psychological well-being in the long run.
I hope this information has been helpful.
To everyone who is asking about Alexa/microphone options of these headphones, i cancel them in the app - options.
