It’s Christmas Time for Some, and Everyday Torture for Others

How do you feel about torture?

What a silly question, you say. Of course, I am against it.

OK, but we tortured people post 9/11, and even justified it.

But this was torturing our enemies, so…

So, maybe, you might tolerate torture, for as long as it’s done to our enemies. But who decides who the enemies are? How about people who think differently, behave differently, oppose consensus, speak against government-enforced programs? It’s a slippery slope.

Do we trust our Government and Intelligence Agencies to decide who the enemies are? (because this is what’s happening today).

What if they abuse this power? (and they do).

What if it’s the kind of torture that is done remotely and with impunity? (case in point – Havana Syndrome).

What if they decide to test non-touch torture weapons on your fellow civilians and justify it by National Security interests? (just ask targeted individuals).

Are you OK with it? Are you willing to sacrifice a few innocent lives and their pursuit of happiness without YOU being asked if it’s the right thing to do?

As far as I remember, it’s Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Period. Not Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, unless it’s a matter of National Security.

Merry Christmas, everybody!

And to those of us who were unlucky to be sacrificed to the idea of National Security, make the best of it. My heart goes out to every single of targeted individuals, because I am one of you. I know your pain firsthand. I just happened to be stubborn and persistent enough to power through the system and get diagnosed with Havana Syndrome, aka non-touch torture.

My wish is that as many of the uninformed skeptical citizens as possible read this, and shared it with as many friends, family members, and colleagues as possible, so maybe one day, we all could have Merry Christmas.
